Some weekends you don't want a project. You want to leave Saturday morning, be somewhere good by lunch, and still be home for Sunday dinner. That's what these Jaipur weekend getaways are built for — short self-drive escapes, all within roughly four hours of the city, none of them needing more than a backpack and a full tank.
We've kept this list to drives you can genuinely do as a one-nighter (or even a long day trip). Everything here is under ~250 km one way. Distances and times are approximate, door-to-door from central Jaipur on a normal day.
1. Pushkar — ~145 km, ~2.5 hr
The classic. A holy lake ringed by ghats, the famous Brahma Temple, and a bazaar that's basically designed to make you lose two hours and gain a tote bag of trinkets. The drive down NH-48 is easy, and Pushkar rewards a slow pace — coffee by the lake, a wander, a sunset from the hill. If you only do one trip off this list, do this. Route notes on our Jaipur to Pushkar page.
2. Ranthambore — ~160 km, ~3 hr
A weekend with a real shot at seeing a wild tiger. Drive down Saturday, take an early-morning safari Sunday, drive back. The catch: book your safari zone before you leave Jaipur, because slots are limited and the early-morning ones go first. Self-drive is perfect here because you control the pre-dawn departure. More on the Jaipur to Ranthambore route.
3. Ajmer — ~135 km, ~2.5 hr
Quieter and more contemplative than its neighbour Pushkar. The Ajmer Sharif Dargah draws pilgrims from across the country, and Ana Sagar Lake is a gentle place to kill an afternoon. Many people fold Ajmer and Pushkar into one trip — they're only a short hop apart — which makes this a strong two-for-one weekend. See the Jaipur to Ajmer route.
4. Neemrana — ~150 km, ~2.5 hr
The low-effort luxury option. Neemrana's restored fort-palace sits just off NH-48 toward Delhi, so the drive is short and almost entirely highway. Check in, do nothing, watch the sun go down over the Aravallis. It's the trip for a weekend when the whole point is to not have plans — an easy anniversary or birthday escape that barely registers as a road trip.
5. Bhangarh & Sariska side — ~typically under 250 km round, half-day to overnight
For something with a bit of mischief: the Bhangarh ruins carry India's most famous "haunted" reputation, and the broader Sariska belt is tiger-reserve country. It's an offbeat pick — go in daylight, keep expectations on the adventure rather than the amenities, and treat it as a stories-to-tell weekend rather than a comfort one.
6. Samode & the near villages — ~short hop, easy day trip
Close to the city but a world apart in pace. Samode's heritage palace and the surrounding Aravalli foothills make for a gentle day trip or single overnight, ideal when you don't want to commit to a long drive but still want that "we got away" feeling. Perfect for a lazy Sunday that starts late.
Picking the right weekend car
None of these drives are mechanically demanding — a hatchback does all of them comfortably. Where car choice matters is comfort: if you're four adults with weekend bags, a sedan or compact SUV turns a fine drive into an easy one. On BaeCars, cars start from around ₹1,200/day and SUVs typically run ₹2,500–3,500/day, so a one-night getaway stays well within a sensible budget.
Quick self-drive checklist
- Documents: Indian renters need a driving licence and Aadhaar; foreign visitors need an International Driving Permit, passport, and Indian visa.
- Insurance: Comprehensive cover is included, so a short highway hop is fully protected.
- Delivery: Doorstep and airport delivery are available — pick the car up at home Friday night and leave at dawn.
- Deposit: A refundable deposit applies and comes back within about seven days of return.
- FASTag & fuel: Top up the FASTag and tank before you hit the highway; these are short trips, but the toll plazas are real.
Long-weekend math
A one-night getaway in a self-drive hatchback — say two days of rental, fuel for a ~300 km round trip, and a couple of toll plazas — lands far cheaper than an outstation cab with a driver you also have to feed and lodge. And the car stays parked at your hotel for the late-night chai run, which no cab will do.
FAQ
What is the best one-night getaway from Jaipur by car?
Pushkar is the easiest and most rewarding for a single overnight — ~2.5 hours each way, a relaxed lakeside town, and enough to see without feeling rushed. Neemrana is the best pick if you want pure rest with a short drive.
Can I do a Jaipur weekend getaway as a single-day trip?
Yes for the closest ones. Pushkar, Ajmer, Samode, and Neemrana are all doable as a long day trip if you leave early. Ranthambore really wants an overnight so you can catch a morning safari.
Is a hatchback enough for these trips?
For two people with light bags, absolutely — every route here is easy highway driving. Bump up to a sedan or SUV only if you're four adults with luggage or just want more comfort on the drive.
How early should I book the car for a weekend trip?
A few days ahead is usually fine for a normal weekend. For long weekends and festival dates, book a week or two in advance because the popular cars get taken first.
